My Military Badges

Hello, my name is John. I’m the Webmaster and author of this website.  I live with my wife in Independence, KY.  I am a proud military professional, retired from one of the best careers available to young men and women and am an extremely patriotic American, proud of my accomplishments and what is more important I'm proud and much honored to have served with some of the best Americans anyone could be associated with, veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

My Military Background: I served two combat tours in Vietnam, the first with the 101st Airborne Division as a door gunner and the First Air Cavalry Division as a Long Range Reconnaissance Team member (LRRP), the second with the 8th Radio Research Field Station (Army Security Agency).  Other major units I am honored to have served with include: Company A, 1/29th Infantry, Ft. Benning, GA, United States Army Security Agency, Bad Aibling, Germany, US Army Security Agency, Arlington Hall Station, Arlington, VA, Defense Language Institute (Russian Language), Monterey, CA,  Army Intelligence and Security Command, Sobe, Okinawa, Army Intelligence and Security Agency, Korea, Defense Intelligence Agency, Arlington, VA, HHC, 2/2 Second Armored Cavalry Regiment, Bamberg, Germany, New Haven District Recruiting Command, New Haven, CT, 559th Personnel Service Company, Neu Ulm, Germany, Cincinnati, OH Recruiting Battalion, with an office in Florence, KY.,  and other units and locations in between.

My Military Awards and Decorations: I’m not one to brag about my awards and decorations I earned during my Army career and combat service, however, I am proud of my Combat Infantry Badge and Jump Wings.

My Military Education:  My military education includes: all leadership schools and all advanced and senior leadership schools and Leadership Academies available to my military occupational specialties including the Recruiting Basic Course, Station Commander's Course, and the Army Career Counselor's Course, and all available courses and hundreds of Army correspondence courses pertaining to my military occupational specialties and many that I dreamed I would someday have.

My Personal Background:  On a more personal note: I was born in Piedmont, AL.  At age six my family moved to Massillon, OH (Ohio Amish Country). So, that makes me a Southern boy at heart and a Yankee by virtue of geographic location.  With both parents being Alabama born I grew up eating that good southern food with some northern food mixed in periodically to balance out nutrition.  I remember eating well, real well!

I am married to a wonderful woman for forty-three years from Canal Fulton, OH who has stood by me through the good and the bad and has encouraged me throughout my career. Lois is the personification of a military spouse.  I was also blessed with two beautiful daughters who in turn blessed me with three grandsons and four grand daughters and two wonderful, successful sons-in-laws any father-in-law would be proud to have.

I am a family man first and foremost!  After a tremendous career in the Army, and after many periods of long separations from my wife and children, I realized how critical the family was to the day-to-day mission of each soldier.  My family, be it during the many periods of separations or during the grateful periods we were together as a family they help mold my career. I try to spend as much time as possible with my wife, daughters and grandchildren.  I am fortunate that my daughters and their families live within a few minutes drive from my wife and I and we see them often.
